Elephant Hill is a beloved hillside open space located in El Sereno in Northeast LA. Its steep slopes offer impressive views and are home to native black walnut, oak, and elderberry trees and a rich variety of wildlife—rabbits, coyotes, bobcats, reptiles, and many species of birds including owls and hawks.

MRCA's trail runs east/west along switchbacks over Elephant Hill and can be accessed from the west side at the Pullman St. entrance. Access on the east side of the hill is from Lathrop St, and from herevisitors can check out the Test Plot habitat restoration garden (see map). The trail is approximately 1.5 miles roundtrip. Be sure to bring water, a hat, rugged shoes, and sunscreen as most of the hill has limited shade trees. Look for pockets of native walnut trees, coffee berry, and other important habitat as you travel over the hill. Download our Nature Guide to learn more about the plants and animals that live on Elephant Hill.
Note: Parking is limited in the neighborhoods adjacent to MRCA entrances. We kindly ask that you respect neighbors’ privacy. Please do not park in front of the homes adjacent to the street stub on Pullman at the western entrance.
